Comrade, sidearms are for officers, operators of crew-serviced weapons, or super turbo high speed individuals... Your issued sidearm as a rifleman is the bayonet at your front, the spade at your back, and the man at your side!  soviet flag

Now I must admit that I'm a little confused by these pictures, most other pictures I've seen from Naval Infantry have the oval cockade instead of the wreath type but the men in these photos appear to all have the wreath type.  Are both forms correct?

I am requesting a bit of info on the following color plates:

Are one of these dress regs. for field use and one for parade use?  If so, the NI belt with the silver buckle is used for field duty as opposed to the brass/gold buckle? Though, I do not know how strictly this was upheld as I have seen mostly brass/gold belt buckles used. Would the great coats in the bottom plate be worn in the field or only for parade?

Two different dress regulations there! First one is from 74, second one is from 88. In 74 the black uniform was both service dress and combat dress, in 88 it was just service/parade dress - the combat uniform then was the TTSKO cammo.

Not how the belt buckles changed colour.... the "silver" one is actually plain steel like the army fatigue belt - but obviously with an anchor. The combat straps are black leather like officer cross straps but double and are like X on your back.

I have this gear Cool

You mean the standard infantry belt suspender straps? Those are just the same as the normal brown ones,
but then in black, as seen in this picture here, and in the pic I posted of my own black gear, or do you mean
from another era, other troops or something?

Cheers,
Michel

Well, in 74-87 they looked like this (pic from earlier in this thread):

All of the "black" field gear stuff that floats around isn't seen very often in the original photos from this sort of period. The things which show up are black leather belts, cross straps, TT holsters etc, the rest... I dunno for sure.

I wonder if its more "naval" than "naval infantry" particularly? The only piece I have is a rifle sling, its deffo original and not dyed but from when and used by who? Never worked it out!

PS the odd photo earlier this thread with weird painted helmets with red flashes on them.... looks like a Soviet action movie, not a real photo... Soviet action movies could be as crap as western ones for accuracy Cheesy (but far more heroic!)

Those are supposed to be the titles of the films? Hard to tell...could be just more PeoplesArmy-isms
How does that translate to Russian exactly?

I loved the 1st movie! Saw it years ago. It is what convinced me to get an Adrian compass and a Planchet and a KLM (still looking for one in my size). But this movie has no MorPeh. Just VDV.

The 2nd movie is a bit of a disappointment. The first one their kits seemed like they are more correct, even if done to look super cool for its time. While the 2nd movie seemed more half-assed. Even silly at times. But it does have MorPeh. Its like a joint operation. But I don't remember anyone running around in black uniforms with stars on helmets. I'll have to re-watch this one.

It should be noted that in these films they are not at war, but doing war games.

Comrade, those are some super items you have got, would you be able to provide some side by side comparison pictures of this uniform with the regular M69 uniform? Could you also compare the waist pockets of the M69 with the chest pockets on your Naval Infantry shirt? Also, could you provide some pictures of the M69 collar laid flat next to the Naval Infantry shirt in the same position? In addition some pictures of the Naval Infantry trousers would be appreciated if you can supply them.  wink

Additionally Comrade, I have a question about the buttons on your shinel. Do the buttons feature a fouled anchor (like the shoulder patch), or is there no rope wrapped around the anchor?
Got my Naval Infantry Eenlisted man's great coat (as seen in the link below) along with Soviet balaclava and sweater.  I have the shoulder boards on the way for the great coat...Just need a black ushanka!

No problem! I can't do it right now so it'll have to wait until next week when I'm on spring break.  The buttons on the great coat do not have a rope wrapped around them, nor do any of the buttons on the summer cut shirt.

Gah, now I keep thinking about this kit again.

I really like the mag pouch color, I don't know why though.

Comrade, thank you for your assistance in this matter. Would you be able to compare the fabric of the M69 and the Naval Infantry summer uniform as well?

Is that belt a web belt or a leather belt? What about the y-straps too?

The summer uniform, are those boards sewn down or are they buttoned on somehow? The don't look sewn on... What do the trousers look like - are they fastening up the front (like normal trousers) or side fastening?

The winter jacket is deffo not Soviet period. What do the factory stamps say? During the Soviet period there are two (black) naval winter jacket for sailors/soldiers (other items for commanders etc), the shinel and the peacoat... and technically only one issued to the Naval Infantry - the shinel.

I have a feeling we are looking at Ukrainian post-Soviet gear here... they kept their Naval Infantry (well, 1 btn of them in the Crimea, was 2 for a while but knocked back in 2005) and the black gear...
