I was taught much the same as Comrade Aluno - that the American forces won the war in the Pacific Theater, whilst the Soviet Union won the war in Europe, resulting in the creation of two superpowers with rival ideologies that would almost immediately face off in a Cold War.

I agree with Mr. Spank: the reason most Americans either ignore or understate the role played by the Soviet Union in World War II is due to lingering "Russophobia" from the Cold War.  The generation that holds vivid memories of THE RED MENACE (TM) is still the primary constituent of the collective American educational faculty, and in most cases it does its damnedest to make sure that fear is passed on.

Did americans win WW2? Yes. They ended up on a winning side. We can talk about how they provoked japan into attacking them. We can talk about how "conveniently" the aircraft carriers left the Pearl Harbor leaving an obsolete battleships as bait (Americans could decypher japanese naval codes since about 1939). We can talk how 8th Air Army never bombed certain German factories since they belonged to General Motors. We can talk how US supplied Germany with Oil, Tungsten, Nickel (Through Brazil and Argentene, of course). We can talk about how Kennedy clan was very friendly with Nazies. We can talk about how it was openly said "If Germany is winning we should help Russia, and if Russia is winning we should help Germans and let them kill and weaken each other". We can openly talk about how ideas of Mr. Ford were utilized in "Final Solution", we can talk about the American Wing of NSP. We can talk about many things. But in the end, USA soundly defeated IJN (thanx not only to outproducing them, but also due to a silly malfunction in radio on Japanese scout plane, which allowed USN to win battle at Midway). US and Britain defeated Rommel (after sizable force of his army was taken away and sent to Russian front). US made TONS of money in this war and ended up as a winner.

However, US never fought a SINGLE BATTLE the scale of Kursk, Stalingrad, Kharkov, Kiev, Warsaw, Leningrad, etc. They PARTICIPATED in a war on a winning side, while making money of BOTH sides.

Not to mention that they sent a ship full of jews back to Germany, anyone wants to guess what happened to those jews?

You will quickly discover that idiots in America are louder than the smart ones. The media doesn't help with this either, as they are quick to stereotype americans as worldly ignorant. There are idiots in Russia too, no?

The main thing you will find in America is that people do not know of the USSRs role in WWII because they do not care. People on this forum, such as myself, Remorseless, Jasoncredible etc are Americans that DO know because they care to read about it. In public school you will find the only mention of the eastern front is Stalingrad. How much of the western front is taught in russian schools? Do you know of the Battle of Midway? Battle of Iwo-Jima? The war in China? How about Italy, where the british and Americans DID do all of the work.

You see schools will teach what pertains to their country, and whats great about the internet is that children in school, if they are interested will go and read more.

It is a mistake to consider all Americans to be ignorant about any subject.

We learned of them in High School. They were described as "Battles considered major by americans and british, but not approaching anywhere near the scale or ferocity of the Eastern Front". For battle of Midway were were told "Major victory for americans mostly due to malfunction of radio on Japanese scout plane". For Ivojima were were taught about heroic resistance by patriotic japanese troops protecting their land from invaders and that it could not compare to battles for Kharkov or Kiev, not to mention Stalingrad and Kursk. This happens to be TRUE
For Africa - American and British victory was made possible only because Rommel had sizable part of his forces taken away and sent to Russian front. This also happened to be TRUE
For Italy - Kesselring was doing a retreat, slowly retreating, his goal was to slow down americans and british, not to stop them. Americans however, massivly bombed Italian civilian population and architectural masterpieces. It was Kesselring who went down in books on tactics for his masterful delayed withdrawl from Italy. This ALSO HAPPENS TO BE TRUE
Birma Campaign - Minor Jungle Skirmish not compatible in scale and ferocity with what was happening in Forests of Belorussia and Ukraine. Also TRUE

Americans however were credited in giving Soviet Union raw materials (aluminum and nickel, same as they did to germans), trucks, canned food, specifically ham. (my grandpa went searching for it first thing as soon as he came to USA) and airplanes. More specifically P-39. British however gave us a better plane - Spitfire. Americans gave us Sherman, British gave us Valentine, Matilda and Churchill.

Yes, grammar is always good. But 2 things to remember:
1) Your failures at your language is due to you not practicing enough. Just because you live in America doesn't mean anyone is stopping you from practicing any other language.
2) This is officially an English speaking forum. And it is in poor taste to write in Russian. Except in the Russian language section.
