On cold days between 30-50 degrees, besides wearing modern long johns, and your uniform; would a Ghorka be sufficient to ward off the cold chill, or do you recommend something better than a Ghorka, or would the newer Ghorka's be sufficient to keep one nice and toasty?

I like the idea of the Russian two-toned camouflage Ghorka, and would like to keep in costume if the weather on the Central California Coast should turn a bit chilly.  Generally during the months of January to March it does rain, but the other times of the year, we get year round fog in the morning, or in the late evenings, where the temperature dips down to around 40 degrees to a high of 55 degrees.

If you are up, moving around and doing 'pretend combat stuff,' then I think you would be pretty comfortable. But if you will be just standing around or trying to sleep I would definitely reccomend another warm layer.

Thank you Comrad; now if the weather is foul, like a light to heavy rain, would you suggest something else other than the Ghorka, or would the Ghorka still work?

A light poncho is useful in heavy rain. The Gorka is water resistant in light rain. When moving about BDUs and kit can keep you warm to 30F. A longsleeve undershirt can add some extra layering to keep you warm and dry.

So the Ghorka is pretty good to stay warm in during very light rain conditions; but if the weather turns very foul, where the light rain becomes a downpour; it is better to use a light poncho, find shelter or both.

modern militaries have a rainproof jacket, but that's extra kit that can be pretty expensive. Also a poncho has plenty of other uses, including becoming that shelter!

I think I'll stick with the poncho over the Ghorka, if it should rain very hard.....

Just wearing your underwear and a Gorka (at least my gorka, wich is a ANA gorka D) will keep you warm in temperatures near 0ºC (32 Farenheit) and will keep you dry in light and medium rain. For heavy rain I strongly suggest a poncho, IMHO is better than a rainproof jacket because is lighter and when you don't need it you'll be wearing breathable clothes.

I recommend layering like the Army does with the ECWCS, FREE, and PCU systems. Skin-tight compression underwear, silk-weight, as a first layer. A looser-fitting mid-weight layer, and then the Gorka on top of that, and you should be good to go.

Agree with Jafo. I was airsofting in -15C (5F) with no problem in Gorka. This includes some ambushes (laying still for half an hour) and crawling/digging my way through the 30cm of snow for 30m.
Well i did wear a lot of layers under it , and a thin white oversuit over it =)

Think of the gorka suit as an old pcu/ecwcs whatever layer system.
The gorka is layer 5 in case of pcu( windproof, light waterproof)
I wear my gorka over my normal combat uniform. Under the uniform long underwear if the weather calls for it. Over the uniform a fleece jacket and on top of that the gorka suit+ perhaps snow camo suit or poncho if it´s raining and you are good to go at frosty temperatures.  Simple thing ;
