I'm wondering how you collectors out there store your gear? I've gotten pretty serious into collecting Cold War kit from both NATO and the Warsaw Pact and the closet I've been using is becoming pretty cramped... As you can see:

There's a lot of room in my basement, even a couple of clothing racks.  However, I'd rather not put them in a place where they're likely to get ruined by bugs, moisture, etc. I'm also looking for a convenient way to store webgear.  Boxes are all well and good but a bit inconvenient and things can get tangled up in there... Hangers are another option but some things can be a bit too heavy.

Any ideas? Recommendations? I appreciate any help from my fellow collectors!

Comrade,
For your heavy Material like Ammunition Boxes, Tins, Tents, Field Cookers, Stretchers and field position building materials you need a secure dispersed organised, tidy and accessible Cold Storage Facility like War Store  "Friedrich" at my own Rezidency.

You may have to store some of the Organ's of State Terrors gardening tools and stuff just so she doesn't get the face on and get in a right mood.

At the time of posting my warm Storage Facility, War Store " Emil" in a Back Bed Room Build in wardrobe for clothing this is a largely rearguard action, as my OoST continuously make demands for her Shoe and Hand Bag Archive.
I also hold ( successfully) the Loft ( the OoST is likes spiders) so again there is Order and all material, Garments, Personal equipment Complexes and supporting material are in large portable seal top Boxes, with handing space for items as well.
This Area has Directions of Interest 1, 2, HG, RE, Cro, DA in clearly visable organised areas, held at Six Hour Battle Readiness, 85% Battle Readiness at all times.

Such is the advantage of a centrally controlled Command society with very strong Internal Security.

Hotel Moscow солдáт

« Reply #5 on: June 28, 2012, 11:15:50 PM »

People's Army has mastered the art of negotiating with his Organ of State Terror whilst still being prepared for the day when the Fascist aggressors launch their last offensive.

Truly, we must all learn from his example.

Shamefully, my collection mainly occupies one half of this Rezident's sleeping complex, with two uniforms hanging in closet.  Even the weapon complexes lay bare, ready to be used in case of sneak attack!

Now, where will I put "Project Reki"...

Comrades,

I have appropriated a facility on the sleeping quarters level of this building for a facility to be able to launch an immediate and decisive counter-attack from. From this point weapons complexes and protective equipment are issued.

Having read my instructions for how to defend a house however, I have an appreciation of how it is important to hold the high ground and in particular, roof spaces. To this end, the bulk of my forces hold the loft space.

I haven't yet removed the staircase from this building (as per the instructions), however I hold this tactic in reserve in case of heavy attack by NATO/fascists/OoST.

Secret War Store Fyodor at my Rezidency is currently protected from damp by dessicated silica and from bugs (moths - Tovarishchi, I have beaten one to death with a lopatka  AK) by non-lethal chemical agents. I have previously deployed persistent lethal chemical agents at my War Store Emil before it was decommissioned.

The plan is to transfer items to War Store Gregor after completion of the State Five Year Plan to remodel the Kitchen Complex.

I occupied and fortified half of the upper lever of our family company's warehouse:

Though right now i have 2 extra 2meter clothing racks, so there is no stuff hanging on the steel spires
of the building itself anymore, and I have complete uniforms with gear and vests hanging on single
clothing hangers, so strong ones do exist, you just need to find them.
A good example of this is the Croatian uniform with Woodland body armor in the 4th pic, it hangs on
one very sturdy plastic hanger, and the vest already weighs 22,5 kilos.

I also keep all my helmets at my home, which fills my room up quite well, all 120+ of them...

I have also nailed mothpapers and such defensed everywhere, so no fascist moths can deny me my
storage in case of sudden attacks, I have also made some small booby traps in case of burglary, as
happened some years ago, though I will keep the exact nature of them secret Cheesy

Cheers,
Michel

Comrades!

I have the strong feeling that my combat readiness sin't as big as some other Tovarishi ober here : you guys can draft hundreds of progressive, purely defensive soldiers for the Motherland!
My People's gear lies in my bedroom, on a shelf, except for the Arms complexes that are on a rack. In case of capitalist air gangster burglary or gitlerite infiltration, my stuff is too close from my hands! And the Organ of State Terror doesn't rule the Rezidency too strong, but I think that it is because she only comes on weekends... I hope she won't turn into a Brezhnev policy organ, otherwise my purely defensive stuff would be hidden somewhere in a dark closet where aggressive fascist moths could attack it.

Pffsh

Storage of gear NO NO NO not here, I allways have my gear ready in the back of the car, so if or when Mother Russia call, Im ready to spring in action.

One green kit (OD defender, partisan, smersh, altyn and so one) and one black kit (Black molle defender, black uniform and black helmet cover for the altyn.) All depens one what the mission is.  AK

I also allways have a armored shield under the gear, so it allways ready to use, if the mission ask for it.

I need to find a better solution. As of today, my kit occupies the space between the bottom of my clothes and the floor. It is not very well organized, and no longer fits inside the small duffel bags I use.

Really with clothing, it is important to fold it right, not to over pack bins, and to keep it dry (use saltines?). With jackets, the padding can become lumpy if it is stored wrong, and with some gear, it may be 'smashed', i.e. the fabric may be creased. So anyways you could go to the laundromat and pick up some hanger bags and store your winter gear during summer and summer gear during winter.

I'm looking around to purchase a clothing rack, don't worry.  I know how to iron too. I've got my flak vests laid out on the deck in the back too.  I've got big plans for it.
