I am starting some groundwork for my sci-fi con cosplay next year. The theme is British Invasion, so I can't allow myself to do anything other than WARHAMMER 40,000!!!

So here I am. I know for sure I want to do atleast one of two costumes as an Imperial Guardsman, one of the billions of average human soldiers holding the bulwark against humankind's annihilation.

One of the possibilities is the 793rd Valhallan, a regiment of my own creation but based on other official Valhallan Ice Warriors regiments.



Valhallans, are obviously WW2 Red Army IN SPAAAACE. They come from a planet of permanent sub-zero temperatures and, like the real Red Army, tend to have some of the most cruel and unbending commanding officers ever seen.

So If I cosplay these guys, I need some leads on old-school Red Army equipment. I'm not sure yet if I'd be an officer, sergeant or whatever, so I won't worry with fine details just yet.

The convention is also in the middle of summer, so first I was wondering if the Red Army ever supplied soldiers with long coats that were light enough to be worn in warmer temperatures, and if so do they have a specific name or equipment number?

Tovarishch. In summer you have the shinel for nights. In winter you add the vatni telogreika and vatni sharovari worn underneath the shinel.

That is if I can figure out what I am doing.. I like the idea of Valhallans(/Space Red Army) as I feel they are under-represented.

I've wanted to collect some of those for a while, because I like their vibe.  I do not, however, like their uniforms. Way too garish for my taste..

.. besides I wouldn't know how to work together a Vostroyan costume.

BTW you get a cookie for showing a pic with a Leman Russ in it. I love those tanks.
